The Middle East has a strong reputation in delivering mega downstream projects, over the past few decades, which have set novel insights on collaborative and complex projects that involve multiple stakeholders. For the second consecutive year, this list is prepared when the world is facing the devastating impact of Covid-19 pandemic.
In the current global economic circumstances, especially in the Covid-19 scenario, there are many deferrals of project awards. While Covid-19 has amplified the challenges facing project delivery, industry discussions reveal that deferred projects are likely to return as global economic circumstances improve.
For the last few years, the competition among the major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies related to the refining and petrochemicals manufacturing sector in the Middle East is at the top level since there are only limited number of large-scale projects in the region and all the major global players are there from around the world.
This year, we have also considered the upstream projects of the contractors since most of the operators in the region manage downstream and upstream side of the energy sector together. As most of the contractors are international players, the scope of their business outside the region was also a factor of consideration.
We have enlisted and ranked the 2021 list of Top 30 EPC Contractors not only based on the value and volume of the projects that
EPC companies have won in the Middle East region from the downstream industry. We have considered many other relevant factors as well.
We have considered the impact of the project on the regional industry, people and economy. We have also considered factors like CSR initiatives, compliance to ethical business practices, etc. The rankings in this year's list have changed notably, compared to the last year.
